Canyon

Dahab, South Sinai

Egypt

Dive site

Located just 2.6 km south of the Blue Hole, the Canyon is one of Dahab’s most iconic and dramatic dive sites. This unique site combines tranquil lagoons, sloping coral gardens, and a deep, narrow chasm formed by tectonic activity in the Gulf of Aqaba. Suitable for intermediate to advanced divers, Canyon offers a thrilling and visually stunning experience, with vertical rock formations, light-filled swim-throughs, and rich marine biodiversity.

What to expect

Best time to dive

JANFEBMARAPRMAYJUNJULAUGSEPOCTNOVDEC
Canyon is accessible year-round, with April to October offering the best diving conditions. During this time, the water temperature ranges from 24°C to 28°C, and visibility is consistently good. Mornings often provide calmer surface conditions, making it an ideal time to explore the deeper structures with minimal current and better light penetration into the canyon.

WILDLIFE ... or meet the locals

While the canyon’s rock structures are the main highlight, the surrounding reef and lagoon are bursting with life. Divers can spot glassfish swirling in the “fish bowl”, a shimmering display of movement (note: entry into the fish bowl is prohibited due to instability). Other regular sightings include Red Sea walkmen camouflaged in the sand, scorpionfish, moray eels, and various species of wrasses, butterflyfish, and anthias. Coral pinnacles and table corals add to the site’s beauty, offering plenty of subjects for macro and wide-angle photography.
