Where we dived
Jackfish Alley is a renowned dive site within Ras Mohammed National Park, near Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The site combines a coral-covered wall with a large sandy plateau and a satellite reef, creating a varied underwater landscape. The dive usually starts with a swim-through in the reef before opening onto the plateau, where a sandy channel runs between the main reef and the satellite reef.
The site is normally dived as a drift, with the current carrying you along the reef and through the sandy alley. The current can vary from mild to strong, so conditions should be assessed before the dive. The different sections of the site offer plenty to explore, from the caves and coral-covered walls to the satellite reef and the open blue beyond.

Meet the Locals
The site is famous for its schools of jackfish gathering around the sandy alley, while the coral formations provide shelter for a wide variety of Red Sea marine life. Glassfish fill some of the caves and overhangs, while stingrays can be found resting on the sandy bottom. Barracuda, tuna and other pelagic species may also pass through the blue, and white-tip reef sharks are sometimes seen resting on the sandy plateau.
