Where we dived

Dive Site

Malahi is one of the most distinctive dive sites in the Fury Shoals region of the southern Red Sea. Known as the “Playground” or “Labyrinth”, the site is formed by towering coral pinnacles and reef blocks separated by narrow passages, canyons and swim-throughs. The maze-like layout gives the dive a feeling of constant exploration, with a new view appearing around almost every corner.

The reef is surrounded by a sandy seabed and most of the dive remains relatively shallow, allowing plenty of time to explore the formations. Inside the reef, the water is generally sheltered from the current, while sunlight filtering through the openings creates striking patterns across the coral and passages. The site is suitable for divers of different experience levels, although good buoyancy control is particularly useful when navigating the narrower swim-throughs.

Meet the Locals

Wildlife

Malahi’s coral maze is home to an abundance of marine life. Schools of fusiliers and snappers dart between the towering formations, while butterflyfish, angelfish, and wrasses navigate the colorful coral landscape. Blue-spotted stingrays can be found resting in sandy patches, and inquisitive moray eels peek out from coral crevices. The site is also frequented by hawksbill turtles, and lucky divers may spot dolphins swimming near the reef’s outer edges.
