The Abu Dhabi Coral Gardens Initiative is a visionary large-scale coral reef restoration project initiated by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) under the direction of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Running from 2025 to 2030, it is the largest coral reef rehabilitation effort in the Middle East, aiming to revive marine ecosystems across Abu Dhabi’s coastal and offshore waters.
What Marine Protected Areas Really Mean

Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) sound like safe zones for sea life, but many allow fishing, trawling, and other extractive activities. Understanding the levels of ocean protection is key if you care about marine conservation, sustainable fishing, and the future of our seas.

Some use it for fun, relaxation, and food. Some treat it as a dump site, a cash cow… and then there are those who want to protect it.
